The word of “cheap apartments” may bring to mind imagining a run-down dives with peeling paint, cracked floor, stink carpets and pest infestation. But do not worry. If you are looking for cheap apartments for the students in your life, then you have several good options to choose from. Your first choice of an apartment for a student should always be to consider school housing. They can often be clean and well organized, with great activities to take part in. They can offer the chance to build real, lasting friendships and they can offer the ability to learn certain life skills. Your student may not get if you decide to go with off campus housing. In fact, a study at the Ohio State University showed that students were significantly more likely to study harder and get better grades if they lived on campus.

It is an exciting period when you get to decide where you will be living, who you will be living with, and what new adventures the upcoming year will bring you. Campus Apartments is usually an option for married and or older students on campus. However, some schools do offer them to everyone. Basically, the idea here is that you can get a cheap apartment for a student because the school owns the buildings and offers them exclusively to their students. The rents are typically below market rates and the apartments usually have full kitchen facilities and living rooms, similar to a regular apartment. Unlike the dorm, there is less community here, but it is still a much more connected experience than the experience of living completely off campus.

Remember, there are many options available for you and these aren’t the only one. Take some time to think about it. There are cheap apartments for students in the off campus area, which basically means anything not officially on the school property. It could be a privately owned apartment next to the school, or it could be a privately owned apartment 20 miles away. However, probably the cheapest off campus housing is the option most college students don’t want: just stay home. Then you don’t have to pay rent at all.
